I wrote this poem during a difficult time a couple of years ago when I felt lost and consumed by dark thoughts. I was struggling with anger and pain, not fully understanding that it was due to my depression.

I was heavily influenced by dark stories and poetry, such as Stephen King's "The Bone Church" and Neil Gaiman's "In Relig Odhráin." These works made me contemplate the duality of everything, how good and bad coexist, and how everyone has two sides. They also made me consider how we often have to wear masks imposed on us by others, hiding our true selves.

The "bone church" symbolizes a place to reflect on the futility of these facades and the inevitability of our mortality. This constant push and pull inspired the poem, which has softened over an editing session but still carries the important message of questioning the difficult aspects of life, including life itself, and coming to conclusions on our own.
